I got to Lesotho just after 7pm last night. It's my first international trip, so I guess I'm starting small. Since Lesotho isn't generally on the top of most people's travelling destination wishlists, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that this trip was for work.
After checking in to the hotel, we went out in search of supper. This wasn't as easy as we expected, because it seems that the whole of Maseru shuts down after dark. The places that were open looked like they were closed because there wasn't anybody around. Eventually we asked some guys on the road and were directed to a Nandos. There was even a Scooters next to it, although I really doubt they deliver.
This morning we set off to find Vodacom to do the stuff we had to do. Strangely enough, even though Maseru is a pretty small place, we still ended up getting lost for quite a while. Although that did allow us to make a few observations:
- people walk a lot - we spotted the same couple about 3 times, going from one side of town to the other
- it's not particularly dangerous there - the couple was walking around with laptop bags
- there are more taxis than private cars - not minibus taxis either... normal cars with a little taxi sign stuck on the roof
- there is a Standard Bank on pretty much every block... not an ATM, an actual building. Or maybe Standard Bank just advertises a lot by sticking their logo on random buildings
- there are probably about 20 Indians in the whole of Lesotho... I saw two of them
It's a cool place, but there's nothing great about it. It's not falling apart or run down, just not very modern or fancy. That's my excuse for not taking any pictures. Although we did see a car overturned in a gutter. The gutters along some of the roads are about a meter deep and half a meter wide. With no curb or railing or barrier.
Back home tomorrow... I have no idea what I'm going to do with this Lesotho currency I have in my wallet. The exchange rate is 1:1 and South African currency is accepted everywhere, but I doubt it'd be worth the hassle of getting it exchanged. Maybe I'll optimistically keep it for my next trip.

Where is Lesotho exactly? I've heard of it but it doesn't seem all that remarkable of a place.
It is kinda halfway between East London and JHB, if you kinda close one eye and drive a bit scew.
